Torbay Local Plan Regulation 19 Publication Version and Consultation

To Whom It May Concern,
Further to our meeting today, I am writing to confirm our discussion and our formal request.
The Muslim community in Torbay has grown greatly. On Eid we hold three to four congregations with around 1500 people attending. There is only one mosque serving all our areas together. Our brother Yousif, Chairman and founder of Torbay Islamic Center, has been asking for a Muslim burial ground for over 30 years. We are truly grateful that Torbay Council has now taken this into consideration it means the world to us.
We discussed a designated space to serve approximately 400 to 500 burials over the next 20 years. We would like this section arranged so that all graves face the Qibla direction.
Our burial practice is:
The body is respectfully wrapped in a clean shroud

Placed gently in the grave without a coffin
​
Wooden planks are placed over the body for protection
​
Laid facing the Qibla, as our faith teaches
We have no pressure we would simply be deeply thankful if the Council can give this important matter full consideration. We respect all your rules and will work fully with you to make everything proper, dignified, and smooth.
